aging out of love

do we grow out of our ability to fall madly in love with someone else? calling love "mad" only implies that the more you mature and actually start to reason with relationships, love no longer seems possible, or at a minimum...not even reasonable.

do we become too individualistic the longer we remain single?...too cynical the more times we get our hopes crushed?....too confident the more people we dump?....more self-deprecating the more we hear that they dont want a relationship...with you?

at some point, are we resilient enough to push past all that truth and reason to become vulnerable enough to believe when someone says, "i love you?" or do we just build walls around ourselves in our perfectly happy place?
