is specificity a cover up?

when he is super specific about who he is hanging out - "im hanging with joe," or "im hangin with my cousin, steve..." or "im going to my coworker's birthday at X Bar"...blah blah, that is probably code for "im on a date with this hot girl" and it is a little awkward to tell you to your face.
